Doctor Malcolm Macfarlane, Group Vet, graduated from Onderstepoort in 1972 and was involved in large animal practice in Natal for 30 years. In 2003 he married and moved to the farm Belmont in the Graaff Reinet district, where he took up the State Vet post for 12 years before reaching compulsory retirement age.
Doc Mac has been involved in wildlife work since the 1970's, assisting Ezemvelo Wildlife, Msinsi Holdings and having a share in the game farm “Umsuluzi” where he was actively involved in introducing various species and, until fairly recently, managing them. Since his “retirement” he has concentrated only on wildlife work. This includes breeding, advising, disease control and biosecurity, immobilization, horn measurements, postmortems etc. Doc Mac’s wide knowledge and extensive experience are a great asset to the the Summit Wildlife Group.
Doc Mac, always self-effacing, has the final word. “I consider it a privilege to be involved with the Summit Wildlife Group, whose honesty, enthusiasm and integrity would be hard to beat”.
